Lumio Lamp Looks and Works Like a Book

Lumio foldable lamp.Consider it as one of the most mesmerizing Kickstarter projects we have encountered. In plain sight, Lumio looks like a book with a wooden cover. Open it up, however, and it is actually a foldable lamp.

The creator, California-based architect and esigner Max Gunawan, developed the Lumio after he could not get enough funding from his original project–a modular home that could fit into a compact car.

“When I decided to pivot and translate the concept into a folding lamp, it was a natural progression to use the form of the sketchbook as a way to package the lamp,” Max writes on Lumio’s Kickstarter page. “That’s how Lumio was born.”

The Lumio is lighted by an LED that can last up to 8 hours when fully charged. Backers can choose from dark walnut, warm cherry, and blonde maple covers, which are also also embedded with magnets that make the Lumio attachable to metal surfaces.

Gunawan’s campaign has received extensive coverage from tech blogs around the world and has since completed his $ 60,000 funding goal by close to 800%. He plans on developing a USB charger and a leather strap for the Lumio as part of its stretch goals. You can still leave a pledge of at least $ 95 to get your own Lumio, but the $ 5,000 “Weekend Getaway with Lumio” package (which includes a “luxurious” camping trip with the Lumio experience) that takes the cake.
